Weight Watchers Update: 1 Month

It is my fourth week on Weight Watchers, and I'm seeing results I tell you. Lately I have been motivated and sticking with the plan, I even look forward to going home and playing the Wii Fit at night. I surprised myself last Friday when I ran for a straight 10 mins on the treadmill and finished it off by a fast pass stride.

I try and stick to a routine each week, by eating similar foods each day. I'm a fan of Lean Cuisines because they have the WW points on the box, plus they are cheaper than Smart Ones meals. I work out three to four times a week, usually from a half hour to 45 mins. It is great too because I always vary what I do, this way I work alot of different areas of my body, however I try to focus on a more cardio workout verses yoga or strength training.

To date, I've lost 7 lbs and today I took measurements of my body and I've lost and also gained.
WAIST: -.5"
HIPS: -.5"
RIGHT ARM: +.75" but I think it is cause I have more muscle, not sure.
RIGHT THIGH: +1" which is weird, but again maybe it is more muscle I have added.
BUST: -.5"

I did end up picking up the My Fitness Coach Wii game I was talking about a couple of weeks ago; which is awesome by the way. There are so many workouts you can do from easy to difficult, my personal favorite is the cardio workout where you do various aerobics. The game even has excersises with weights, a aerobics board and a balance ball if you have it. I totally recommend this game and I recommend you have alot of space to do it in (I always have to move my coffee table). Funny story, when I went to pick up this game at Game Stop, I found out about a new Wii game that is suppose to be as big as the Wii Fit board. I believe it is called EAU Active, it is a game that focuses more on strength training and burning fat that uses a resistance band during the workout; it comes out in May, and I put $5 down on the game (I'm such a nerd).

My end goal weight is to get to 165. My short goals are to loose 20 pounds every 2 months. I need to loose 13 more pounds by end of February to make my first goal. Wish me luck everyone, I'm going to need it.

H E A L T H   T I P S:
~ The Super Bowl is only days away, and I know I am dreading going to a party where there are tons of fatty foods, chips, wings. One tip that might help you keep off the pounds is stay away from bright colored plates and cups. Red, oranges and yellows screams more more, eat more! Think of all the fast food restaurants like McDonalds, Burger King and Taco Bell, that use these bright screaming colors in their logos; and you wonder why your getting the super size!

If you are having a party I would recommend blues or greens, those colors are much more soothing and relaxing therefore making you eat slower and in the end might help you to realize when you are full.

~ Also drink a glass of water or milk before you start a meal: these liquids naturally need space in your belly, so therefore you will feel fuller without having to starve yourself.

Lucy and Other Treats

It is Monday again, and I have spent several hours this weekend creating, while getting over this horrible virus that I had. Along with 11 new jewelry pieces I have also finished a new painting from the Sweet Heart Collection. I thought I'd share my process with you and give you the scoop on some new arrivals coming this evening at Red Heart 13.

I introduce Lucy, she is based on the lovely Lucy Westenra from Bram Stoker's Dracula. Lucy Westenra, was Mina's best friend. Being a vivacious young woman, she fell under Dracula's spell, and turned into a vampire where she had banished her soul from the promise of eternal rest. In the end Van Helsing's crew hunts down the vampress she has become and slays her and returns Lucy's soul to her body and to heaven.

LEFT: This is Lucy in the second stage of painting. I picked her up in Salem, MA at this fabulous jumbled antique store. She was originally bw and had a very gray undertown, it was actually a journey to bring out her paleness, I had to eat away the film of gray that was on her face; but in the end the I left some of the film as her shadows around her neck, eyes and nose. The image to the RIGHT: is another portrait I picked up in Salem, this is the third session with this deathly lady. She is going to be added to my Skeleton Krew™ Collection once she is complete. I am still in the process of figuring out her hair, so hard.

I finished
Lucy over the weekend and she is just marvelous, her eyes are so striking and is perfect for any bloody Valentine. She comes in an antique wooden frame with a gold border, glass and cute red bow at the top. She is now available at Red Heart 13.

Introducing Sugar Plum Tree

Photobucket
Have you ever heard of the Sugar Plum Tree?
'Tis a marvel of great renown!
It blooms on the shore of the Lollipop Sea
In the garden of Shut-Eye Town;
The fruit that it bears is so wondrously sweet
(As those who have tasted it say)
That good little children have only to eat
Of that fruit to be happy next day.

I introduce to you Sugar Plum Tree, the most sweetest place ever, filled with goodies and treasures that rain as much as an apron can hold!

I mean what do you do with all the extras? Being on etsy for two years, you begin to have quite a collection of beads, supplies and even things you don't know what to do with; and I'm a hoarder at that. So my side kick Alison from Spool Design and I opened up a detash / supply shop called Sugar Plum Tree. It's been open since May '08, but not until this year have we started nurturing it. We are still growing and have tons to list, every thing from beads, pendants, vintage finds and even Alison's hand made bird egg beads.

Heart us today and please stay tuned for updates and yummy treats for all!

Black 13 Collection

Amongst all the intriguing predictions of 2012, this be all, end all of doomsday has stimulated me to create a becoming jewelry collection called Black 13, inspired by Armageddon, death, destruction and the Book of Revelations.

My original goal was to launch the collection in my shop Red Heart 13 in February, but since my brain has all these fabulous ideas I am thinking of launching in March.

I have begun collecting wonderful vintage pieces that relate to the symbolism in the Book of Revelations and even scientific predictions of natural disasters. I plan on doing lockets, necklaces, bracelets, brooches and earrings.

You can read my previous posting on my thoughts and some interesting articles plus websites called Doomsday 2012.
Currently I am working on piece that revolves around the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, they symbolize the evils to come at the end of the world. The figure representing conquest rides a white horse, the red horse is war; famine is the black horse; and plague is the pale horse.

Photobucket

Some other pieces that I have collected are this fabulous encrusted rhinestone brooch, it reminds me of the Milk Way or a gamma ray burst. I also found this awesome vintage hour glass that will count down the to Armageddon and the second coming of Christ. This swirling moon pendant is a sign of the three lunar eclipses that are supposed to happen in 2012.

Photobucket

Some other ideas I have in mind are etchings on rings and have some talismans of faith in the works too. I will have more to come on the collection soon, for now you can enjoy another painting from my Sweet Heart Collection just in time for Valentines Day. I should be posting the vampress in a day or so.

Doomsday 2012

Doomsday, Armageddon, End of Days…December 21, 2012.  There are ideas that some sort of world devastating event will take place in December 2012, this event has been gaining absorption for years due to the calculations of the ancient Mayan astronomers. Yet there are more scientific threats to our planet including cracks in our planet's magnetic field, the eruption of super volcanoes, earthquakes and flare ups of sunspot radiation.

All of this could be a a bunch of baloney, were the Mayans and Egyptians right about Dec 21, 2012 or how about Nostradamus or Edward Cayce in their predictions of the end of the world? I mean we are over a million years over due for mass extinction right? There has been some interesting shows on lately, like Armageddon Week that was recently on the History Channel and in the past month my husband Bruce and our friend Rob finished the book, Apocalypse 2012: A Scientific Investigation Into Civilization's End by Lawrence E. Joseph. It is a great read that goes over the scientific asspects of destruction and briefs on bible code, the Mayans and the symbolism in the Book of Revelations and much more.

Here is just one scenario, take the super volcano in Yellowstone, it is a popular tourist site where millions come to visit the beautiful hot springs and geysers. Few are unaware that only a few miles underneath there feet is magma. There are always small earthquakes in that area, but just in December there were more than 250 tremors. The swarm began Dec 26 and has continued, could this be a coincidence? Ok, lets say this thing erupts and this massive system rises and it pushes up from the earth's crust. This eruption would cause thick ash deposits that would bury vast areas of the United States, let alone the lava that destroys everything in its reach. Ash could reach up to 60 miles in each direction, plus there would be high volumes of volcanic gases in the atmosphere that could drastically effect the global climate, including the blocking out of the sun.

Who knows what is going to happen, I do however believe that the government knows about it, and has known for a long time, I'm surprised the government let's 2012 shows air. What about mass panic in 2012, when this shit goes down humans are going to de-evolutionize. It is going to horrible, I often think what to do, I want to have kids and go all these places, do I only have 4 years of my life left and than suffering or immediate death. We could do like
Patrick Geryl, who is 54 years old now, he quit his job back in 2006 and saved money up in order to prepare for the apocalypse. He created a survivor group and began gathering materials that would help the survival of himself and members. He purchased things like water purifiers, wheelbarrows with spare tires, dust masks and seeds. This man has a list that runs 11 pages long. I guess we will find out if this man was a genius or not. I think he is, and my husband was even joking about quitting his job. It seems though there are thousands who are preparing for end of days, there is even a 2012 Supplies Survival site!

It is only time a matter of time when we will find out which will be the first sign of be all, end all. I say you can either knowledge yourself, ignore it, or be the best person you can be. There are so many variables to this dooms day equation, one is bound to happen. You might as well sit back and enjoy the show!

Photobucket
~ THE TIN MAN ~ Created from an antique silver pocket watch with glass, crystal beads on chain, enamel heart, gold plated chain and vintage skeleton key.

IF I ONLY HAD A HEART…
When a man's an empty kettle he should be on his mettle,
And yet I'm torn apart.
Just because I'm presumin' that I could be kind-a-human,
If I only had heart.
I'd be tender - I'd be gentle and awful sentimental
Regarding Love and Art.
I'd be friends with the sparrows ...
and the boys who shoots the arrows
If I only had a heart.
Picture me - a balcony. Above a voice sings low.
Wherefore art thou, Romeo? I hear a beat....
How sweet.
Just to register emotion, jealousy - devotion,
And really feel the part.
I could stay young and chipper
and I'd lock it with a zipper,
If I only had a heart.

Weight Watchers Update

It is my second week on Weight Watchers, and I'm feeling the burn and feeling healthier. I feel like it is easier this time around and I am more motivated. Last night we were already making plans for our vacation at the beach in July, can't wait.

To date, I've lost 3 lbs, and I am even seeing results in the smoothness of my skin and slimming of waist and arms. I've been doing my Wii Fit, twice a week. I love the flexibility of the different exercises that the Wii Fit offers, you can focus on yoga, step aerobics, boxing, strength training, hula hooping or even jogging. Plus there are alot of fun games that focus on your balance. Another Wii Fit game I am starting to like more and more is Julian Michael's Fitness Ultimatum 2009, boy does it hurt! It is basically like a boot camp for your body; it focuses on motion fitness of toning and cardio with workouts like monkey bars, tire jumping, jogging, canoeing and ladder climb are some of my favorites. This new game I just heard about is My Fitness Coach, which has a virtual personal trainer that demonstrates over 500 exercises for flexibility, cardio fitness, strength training and even lets you custom your environment, track your training on a calendar and lets you set personal goals. I think I am going to buy it tomorrow, now that I got paid, whoot whoot!

My end goal weight is to get to 165. My is to loose 20 pounds every 2 months. The ideal time for this is 6 months to loose, but in reality I am going to add another 1.5 months, since my body might plateau.

Today is RED WEDNESDAY!

Stop on bye Red Heart 13 today, for our weekly discount for Red Wednesday, if you buy 1 piece of jewelry you get the 2nd half off!

Over the weekend, I finally got to meet a buddy of mine from etsy named Jess L. Schnabel of Blood Milk Jewelry and Baby Fangs. My friend Alison and I drove up to Philly using my new GPS (note to self don't ever use one in the city, took us to the wrong side of town, if you know what I mean). Jess' house was filled with odd things in apothecary jars and mystery pieces that were once her fathers. She had a wonderful little studio room filled with endless inspiration all within her haunted townhouse that was built in the 1800s. As a gift, she gave me a box of her grandmother's old vintage costume jewelry and another box from her aunt, who ventures auctions; beautiful pieces with rhinestones, lovely pendants and even pieces of fabric embellishments with pearls, I believe to be from a wedding dress. I was just astonished, I couldn't wait to get home and start creating from these timeless pieces that were once worn by a loved one. Several pieces below are new creations from the fabulous gifted costume jewelry. Thank you Jess!

The Royal Vampress

Photobucket
A lovely lady named Marie Louise sits looking abroad to the unknown with a slight red smile to match her blood stained pearls and gown. She was the second wife of Napoloen Bonaparte, and was born in 1791 and died as royalty with an unknown death in Parma, Italy. Could she have been seduced by the undead…her dark secret lover vampire.

This Royal Vampress comes framed in a black aged flourish wooden frame with glass, with a black velvet backing with stand. This painting is from my Sweet Heart Collection, and is perfect for any Valentine's gift for that dark duchess you love. She is available at my etsy shop Red Heart 13.

Something Old and New

Photobucket
~ Something old and new…these Immaculate Coral Cluster Earrings look as if they are from the shallow waters of a coral reef.

The truth about myself is that I love collecting jewelry, however I almost never seem to wear alot of it, on occasion I will wear a collection of necklaces together, something vintage and religious, I'm an advocate collector of crucifixes and water fonts. I am also a grand fan of earrings, especially the strange, unusual and of course vintage. Anytime I stumble upon vintage clip-on earrings, I get sucked in; I cherish the ones with clusters of pearls, bead caps and even intricate metal work. When I was in Salem back in November, there was this little antique store near the Salem Inn where my husband and I stayed, I found some wonderful photos graphs that I snagged and also the jackpot of vintage earrings. I love finding buried treasure!

I love revamping vintage finds into new pieces; it's giving a new life to forgotten pieces that have been forgotten. The pair above is a new creation, these organic Immaculate Coral Cluster Earrings are made from vintage beads, brass, a white enamel bead cap and a pink head pin. You can rework old clip-ons by removing the backing or even drilling a hole in the metal for hanging a new earring hook. It is a new twist on any fabulous era of style!

S.A.M. Some Artist Man Named Viktor

It is a new year for the Red Heart Cult™, and from the depths of my heart I am honored to present a dear friend to bring in the new year. Viktor Brazfield aka S.A.M. Some Artist Man is a spookish fiend that expresses his work through haunting sculptures, grim paintings and childhood memories turned into assemblages.

Viktor grew up experiencing the beaches, mountain cultures and the city life of what is Southern California, and the lakes and flat lands of Northern Ok. and New Mexico. Due to the traveling as a child, Viktor wondered if he was a gypsy, but in reality he was a Native American boy with English and Irish blood. Viktor later grew up, and received his art training right out of high school as an illustrator for the county. From there, he received formal training in the Air Force as a civilian working in their engineering department. He also took classes at the local junior college, some university classes, artist workshops and learned from his uncles who worked on carvings, sculptures and paintings.

Much of Viktor's work is of a more spiritual inspiration. However, living in Los Angeles has afforded him the opportunity to meet and share with other like minded individuals, who in essence have become his art family in the sense that they all have a deep understanding and respect for his creations; that has inspired and encouraged him to keep creating to a certain degree.

The Mommy, Frankenstein & Ghost In One. Original art by ©Viktor Brasfield 2008.

Viktor's process is quite interesting… he usually sketches for a few weeks before one of his sculptures or assemblages begins to take form. The sketch ideas come from dreams or images that he sees in nature. He then gathers materials and begins to juxtapose them together. Sometimes the objects will allow him to guide them and sometimes they will tell him where they need to be placed. In between that process, he journals all his thoughts on each project. That process is pretty much like the process a scientist would keep when doing research or working on an invention. He also does research to see if there is any historical significance to his work. For instance, the piece that he created entitled “The Tenth Muse of Metal” which he made for the Art Core: Honoring Metal Through Art Show, involved research on Greek Mythology, Musical Theory, and Muses that allegedly inspired the arts. During that process he realized that there were 9 muses, so naturally Viktor's became the tenth muse of Metal Music.

In Viktor's (spare) time he likes to go to art shows and Pow Wows the Rockabilly, Hellbilly scene , he loves to get on his bobber and drive to nowhere. Researching the paranormal and mental illnesses also intrigues him, supernatural inspirations can be found in some his most bizarre paintings like the one above. A while back Viktor played the harp in a couple bands, lately he has been thinking about getting back in the scene. He also loves to encourage other artists of all ages to just keep doing their work. To quote Tim Gunn, “Make it work, people”. The Red Heart Cult honors Viktor's dedication to his work and loves that he is truly supportive of other artists.

Here is Viktor in his studio.

"When it comes down to it, I do my art work because it reflects my childhood and encompasses both good and not so good memories. Something funny if you go see the moive the Unborn remmeber me…hehehe!"

In the last six months Viktor has had shows at the following Los Angeles galleries: Congregation of the Forgotten Saints, Artcore, Art Slaves, The Hive, The Koos, The United Cats, Safari Sam’s and The Barnsdall Park Gallery. We hope you enjoy our featured artist for January, Viktor is a dear friend and I wish the best of luck to him and hope to travel our to L.A. one day to see his immaculate work in person. Thank you Viktor!
