A Broken Heart

Some of you may already know due to tweets here and there, but over the weekend one of my love birds passed away. I've had the couple of cuties for almost 10 years now and they have seen some places in their travels and had a family of babies at one time; they were like a couple growing older together.

Jagger, the male is named after Mick Jagger; when I first brought them home I used to play The Stones on my playschool record player and they loved it! The female Niki, is named after the vixen from the '90s show La Femme Nikita. She was much more quiet and fatter, she loved to hide in her wooden box where she slept and once raised little hungry babes.

I was quite surprised Friday night when I found her, Jagger seemed louder then ever when I was rocking out to Faith No More the night before. I don't know if Flag my cat was the culprit, we did have an incident in the beginning of the year where he almost ate her, but she was a survivor. I buried her Sunday morning, in the field out back near the garden. It was a hot humid morning, I remember sweating really bad but it was a nice morning for such a sad thing. It was interesting when I was digging her grave, I came across some old pieces of glass from a amber bottle, I've saved these relics from her burial and washed them off and put them in my cabinet of memories.

For now, Jagger is all alone, I try and play music for him to make him happy for a while, but he sleeps alone on his perch. I have been calling around and actually found someone today in Hockessin, DE who might be able to one get one for me by next Tuesday. I've also found this exotic bird place down in Lewes, DE, so if all else fails I will have to go down there. I will keep everyone posted, please keep Jagger in your prayers so he doesn't die of a broken heart.

Pray For My Little Birdie!

UPDATE: Nikki, my bird is doing much better, she is eating and moving around. Even came out and sat on the swing. Thank you everyone for your prayers and thinking of her. It is truly appreciate and I thank you from the depths of my heart. LM

So this evening I had plans to work at home and getting some jewelry shipped off and get some new listings done for my online shop. Well I was enjoying my Cappriotties sub and my cat Randal Flag was trying to steal some meat.

When all of a sudden I saw the cat jump off the desk and attack my bird cage, my two birds Mic Jagger and Nicita went flying, the cat jumped and caught the female bird in his mouth and tried running off with it, he ran and took it out into the hall. I went after him and I kicked him and got the bird and quickly put her in the bathroom. I yelled at the cat and shut the office door to keep Jagger in. Oh my god I was freaking out, I didn't know what to do. So I went into the bathroom and the bird was on the sink there was a couple blood pools, surely lost alot of blood. I grabbed a towel and tried catching her, and she flew on the wall, the shower curtain, and then to the window curtains getting blood everywhere. It was like a murder scene in my bathroom. I finally grabbed the bird and held her and put the towel on the wound, seemed the cat ate part of her tail. I put her back in the cage and it took me a half hour to catch Jagger in the room, finally with a plastic bag.

Oh the poor soul, what is Jagger to do without his little wifey, they have been together for about 10 years, had some kids about 6 over the years, they are long gone and now it is just the two of them, like two old fogies. Seems I left the clip off of the lock and they opened the door. I don't blame them wanting to escape. But Nikki seems to be doing ok, she ate and is in the little house with Jagger.

This is some tragic accident, we must all pray for little Nikki, let's hope she gets better and doesn't die during the night.

The alleged assailant when he was 2 months old. Never knew Flag would grow up to be an attempted murderer.

A Joyous Flight

Yesterday, was a happy day for miss Alison Welch, the creator of Spool Design. She celebrated her 1 year anniversary of her etsy shop, hoot hoot! Spool is a lovely world filled with light hearted shabby chic jewelry; everything from darling earrings, elegant necklaces and her famous bird egg beads that she hand makes from polymer clay.

Alison is full time graphic designer and my side kick here at work. She enjoys adding personal touches in her creations, like in her new collage watch necklaces; like the one featured below. She is also an advocate of attending antique stores, flea markets and loves anything vintage. Back in the day, when she was just knee-high to a tadpole, she would never let anyone in her family throw anything away, because "I could make something with that," and she usually did. Today her junk collecting and obsession to make stuff has landed her right on etsy. She is a proud member of the Delaware Street Team and CSST - Etsy's Cottage Style Street Team; the most wonderful collaboration of Shabby Chic-style Etsiers.

Let's show some love and a big congratulations to
Spool Design. Keep up the lovely work Alison!

This Of Heaven and Earth Collage Necklace is sweet mixture of moss and a sparrow inside of a vintage watch casing.

These darling Belle of the Ball Earrings are quite stunning don't you think, with a removable pink bow and grayish pearl on a thin silver chain.

These sweet Robin's Egg Beads are hand-made by miss Alison herself, each handcrafted and later speckled with paint.
