The Return of BlackHand

A few years back I wrote about one of my favorite local bands BlackHand. After a long hiatus, these dudes are back in full force with new jams and two new members. I recently had the opportunity to update their logo for a more spacey vibe, which was super fun and challenging. I pulled out the old pencils to do hand drawn lettering resembling space mountains and craters from parts unknown. Look for another post soon on the process of doing this new logo, from sketches to renditions.

You will be hearing more of BlackHand in 2015 with the release of their second album that is a darker take on 70s sci-fantasy mixing tastes of doom and thrash. These guys just played at the Oddity Bar in Wilmington, DE. Check out a video below featuring the songs "The Watcher"and "Secret War" with are a darker perspective on these silver age comic references.

BlackHand Marks You

Much like the mafia marks you for death, BlackHand marks you for rock 'n roll! This upcoming local band from Newark, DE is made of five rebels with attitudes that deliver a mixture of metal, evil & blues. Formed in early 2010 in a small backyard garage, original songs have birthed from the ground up with vocal delivery and epic doom gloom gut wrenching metal and fury. Get into a groove with originals like Army From the Void and Hell's Henchmen, which celebrate the madness of Armageddon, and their original Dance of the Undead tells the tale of a great escape from vampires. Their shows explode with intense energy and while there at it get kicked in the ass with some Misfits and Danzig covers too. They've shared the stage with some of my new fav east coast bands like Altar of Dagon, Von Kull, The Claw and Thy Will Be Done. Catch them around your town and keep posted on their facebook fanpage for their upcoming album, they hit the indie recording studio, Cephlopod Records in April.

I HEART: Pick Your Poison

A little mystery, tragedy and curiosity are always a part of my inspiration. I dive into the worlds of love stories and drown in the worries and sorrows of others. I long for the sadden and romantic; truly idling the true emotions cast from some the characters; such fav Shakespeare souls as Venus, Juliet and Hamlet. The other night before watching The Reader, I told my husband I love tragic films, and he asked "Really Why?", and I said "because they make me feel alive!" As an ode to the lovesick, poisoned and fatefully doomed here are some new things I heart.

~ LOVE IS IN THE AIR by Zara Carpenter from Chatham Girl, I adore the emotion of this photo, let alone the beauty of this beret. This fair maiden is as if true love plays heavy on the heart.

~ A CENTURY APART, Victorian revamped tin type necklace by Opulent Oddities. A stunning adornment which reminds me of a lonely wife awaiting by the window peering into the distance of the ocean longing for the return of her lover.

~BLOOD AND BUTTERFLIES print, a play on seduction, temptation and Dia De Los Muertos. Lovely darkened art and prints by Nightshade Studios.

~ THE SLEEPING DEATH SESSIONS by Boopsie Daisy, a print from the Snow White inspired photo series 'The Sleeping Death Session'.

~ BLACK SPIKE Hair Stick from Starrlight Jewelry, darkened daggers of passion, I'm in love with the jet black and drama; reminds me of medieval armor.
