March Medical Madness - BLOODS

A vampires dream. I'm seduced by the blood portraits from London photographer John Ross. The 'Bloods' series breathes new life for my love of anatomy. These are just to die for.

March Medical Madness - I HEART

It is that time of year, the time for the glorious look into anatomy, this March is the 5th annual celebration of March Medical Madness. I would like to start things off with some curious finds that reflect my interest with the human body.

~ Conjoined Teeth Ring: quite a odd and lovely combination between relics of the body and hand crafted metal-smithing, I love the fact that the teeth have all been donated. Maybe one day I will find my baby teeth and get it memorialized into a ring or necklace. This particular ring fascinated me because I often have dreams where my teeth fall out.

~ An anatomically correct Heart in a Jar, I must acquire this for my doll-house to go along with my box of bones, it is quite magically that it floats in the center with such ease; a perfect adornment for a lover.

~ A Chalkboard Skull comes in jet black is ready for doodles and quick ideas that are on the brain. "She" comes life size too!

Healing ~ Warrior Hematite Earrings

I've always been fascinated by natural minerals of the earth, as a child I used to collect fossils and stone then displaying them shadow boxes with all my finds. I recently was wooed back into this realm, after a couple months of personal positive healing factors from one of my favorite calming stones, Hematite.  I've been wearing a carved key made of this mineral, I especially love to wear it during sleep for it brings on vivid dreams and also calms my soul during the day of stress of work.

New at Red Heart 13, are darkened Warrior Hematite earrings that provide solid ground as a calming and protective talisman. The ancient Egyptians used hematite as a calming stone, and in many cases of hysteria. As protection, Roman and Native American warriors used to rub iron oxide, the powered form of hematite, on their bodies as war paint before battle in belief that it would protect them. The word hematite is derived from the ancient Greek word for blood, some cultures believed the stone was actually formed from blood spilled on the earth during battlefield. Their is also evidence that hematite may have been used to make some of the very first mirrors. I find this piece of info very alluring because often mirrors are said to be a doorway to the supernatural world, I find this connection to be seducing to my curiosity with other dimensions and the afterlife.

These Warrior Hematite earrings feature a faceted hematite teardrop bead are matched with black matte chain and a diamond matte connector on french ear wires. The color of the earrings remind me of ancient armor used in war. Wearing these earrings as your healing companion, can help improve relationships and help increase good intuition.

Soon to come for March Medical Madness:
PYRITE EARRINGS & NECKLACE
Mystical properties: assist in balancing the root or chakra, helps communicate honestly, emotional and physical protection, helps boost self confidence, helps increase physical stamina and is used as a shield stone in removing negativity from the aura to help concentration.

LUNGS ~ Florence and the Machine

Quite an astonishing discovery, Florence and the Machine with her new album LUNGS. Florence Welch, a fearless singer songwriter from London, she dances on stage and writes like she is possessed. From a world of her own, she rocks her restless demons and channels fables about sex, violence, guilt and mortality, at other times one can escape into the wilderness feeling one with the soul and blood running through the veins. I've been enraptured!

Her writings are just brilliant:
“Between Two Lungs”
Between two lungs it was released
The breath that passed from you to me
That flew between us as we slept
That slipped from your mouth into mine
It crept between two lungs. It was released/

“Howl”
My fingers claw your skin, try to tear my way in
You are the moon that breaks the night for which I have to howl.

Anatomy of a Cryptid

Today I came across some fabulous anatomy drawings that peek into the world of cryptids (bigfoot, Yeti, Lock Ness Monster). This amazing work is by Walmor Corréa, he creates finely rendered anatomical creatures and also exhibits skeletal beings in his work. The detail of the organs and charts would suggest possibly a marine biologist. I truly love the mermaid, interesting how the upper body is almost exact to a human and there is a faint existence of vertebrae lining the inside of the tail which sits under unique female organs.

I'm also found of this drawing of a Capelobo, quite odd and pleasant, in my research of this fascinating creature I discovered this old Indian tale:

Wolf's cape is said to derive from an old Indian who leaves his village to live his last days alone in the forest. Instead of dying, however, he gradually transforms into a foul-smelling hairy ape armed with longs, canine fangs and a single eye protuding from his forehead. The terrestrial creature walks upright and leaves rounded footprints in the soil, similar to those left if one presses the bottom of a bottle into the ground.

March Medical Madness

It is that time again for the glorious look into anatomy, this March I'm celebrating the 4th annual March Medical Madness. Every day I am truly blown away by the tinkerings of the human body and mind. Three years ago over at the Red Heart Cult, I would share beautiful engravings and intriguing looks into health, medicine, deformities and curiosities all shared through an online gallery. If I could do my career all over again, I think I would go into the medical field, either a mortician or medical examiner.

During the month, I will share lovely artists, etsy finds, articles/exhibits and amazing artists such as one of my idols
Andreas Vesalius; all in celebration of the human body.
