March Medical Madness - BLOODS

A vampires dream. I'm seduced by the blood portraits from London photographer John Ross. The 'Bloods' series breathes new life for my love of anatomy. These are just to die for.

I HEART

My home is filled with odd things, and odd things I covet and collect! Having a fascination with anatomy prints, books and art, I thought I'd share some lovely March Medical Madness finds for the studio or just around the house

Anatomy of a Cryptid

Today I came across some fabulous anatomy drawings that peek into the world of cryptids (bigfoot, Yeti, Lock Ness Monster). This amazing work is by Walmor Corréa, he creates finely rendered anatomical creatures and also exhibits skeletal beings in his work. The detail of the organs and charts would suggest possibly a marine biologist. I truly love the mermaid, interesting how the upper body is almost exact to a human and there is a faint existence of vertebrae lining the inside of the tail which sits under unique female organs.

I'm also found of this drawing of a Capelobo, quite odd and pleasant, in my research of this fascinating creature I discovered this old Indian tale:

Wolf's cape is said to derive from an old Indian who leaves his village to live his last days alone in the forest. Instead of dying, however, he gradually transforms into a foul-smelling hairy ape armed with longs, canine fangs and a single eye protuding from his forehead. The terrestrial creature walks upright and leaves rounded footprints in the soil, similar to those left if one presses the bottom of a bottle into the ground.

March Medical Madness

It is that time again for the glorious look into anatomy, this March I'm celebrating the 4th annual March Medical Madness. Every day I am truly blown away by the tinkerings of the human body and mind. Three years ago over at the Red Heart Cult, I would share beautiful engravings and intriguing looks into health, medicine, deformities and curiosities all shared through an online gallery. If I could do my career all over again, I think I would go into the medical field, either a mortician or medical examiner.

During the month, I will share lovely artists, etsy finds, articles/exhibits and amazing artists such as one of my idols
Andreas Vesalius; all in celebration of the human body.

The Dark Duchess

The past two months have been wonderful for me, I had my first art show back in September, it went off very well and everyone was so supportive. I ended up selling two necklaces,  a shadow box called Armored Saint and two tiny brass box relics. I came back even stronger for my second art show in October. Over 130 people came out to see my work along with two other brilliant artists. Having more assemblages and relics I was very successful and featured new work, I sold the Two Hearts, Two Souls collage, Vampire in the Dark painting and had a commission for a for a custom Skeleton Krew portrait like the one featured below. I can't wait to have another art show, while in Salem last week I picked up some new portraits to add to my Skeleton Krew collection. I look forward to creating new works and have been feeling inspired lately, all I need now, is time.
